Did you just meet someone who claims to be an authorized Google Adwords reseller or have you seen a website proudly flashing the logo below:
The good news is there really exists such a program, though, Google doesn't market it as prominently as their Google Advertising Professional (GAP) program. As such, you can expect that information is scant and you won't even find much details at the Google Adwords Authorized Reseller website. However, I've managed to obtain unverified information (pretty sure Google's not going to come out and verify it) based on my conversation with people in the industry.
First, the company must have at least 3 Qualified Individuals. It will then be placed on 3 months probation, during which time it has to meet the agreed quota of new Adwords client acquisition and total ad spend. Once these conditions have been met, the company will still have to be evaluated and approved by someone in Google.
Upon being awarded the status, it will take between 1-1.5 months for all the paperwork including the logo above, linking to a profile page on Google to acknowledge the company as being an authorized reseller. I have been told that countries like Singapore and Malaysia (i.e. relative small markets) can only have a maximum of 2 Adwords Authorized Resellers.
After that, the company will be given an annual quota for the ad spend (US$1mil for Singapore and US$500,000 for Malaysia), as well as, to acquire new clients.
In return, the company will be provided with enhanced support from Google including training, customer support, promotional credits, etc. Of course, there is the recognition from Google which helps a lot in terms of marketing. The Adwords Authorized Reseller also gets a 5-8% commission from the total ad spend, with special bonuses if they're able to grow the clients' ad spend.
So there you have it. Once again, the above is unsubstantiated information and should be taken as FYI only.
