Technorati just released their quarterly State of the Blogosphere report with some interesting data about bloggers and blogging. The number of blogs doubled from 35 million to over 70 million blogs in the last 10.5 months. Technorati also estimates that 120,000 new blogs and 1.4 million new posts are created daily. Splogs, i.e. spam blogs created to promote affiliate products or for SEO purpose, continue to be a problem and there are between 3,000 - 7,000 new splogs created daily. I’d expected the number to be much higher as I’m sure that most of us have used this strategy at some point. Blogs are an important source of information today - they dominate 22 spots on the list of the top 100 most popular websites. What’s news to me is that there are more Japanese blog posts (37%) than English (35%). Another point to note is the growing use of “tags”, from blogs to social media sites like Digg, Flickr and YouTube.![]()
