In addition to Google pulling out of China, the other notable news last week was about SEMPO’s “State of Search Engine Marketing Report 2010″. The 112-page report takes a detailed look at SEO, paid search and social media marketing, and is based on a recent survey done on 1,500 advertisers and agencies in 68 countries. Some of the key findings of the report:
- Paid advertising mostly went to Google (97%), followed by Yahoo (50%) and Bing (44%).
- 71% advertised on Google’s Search Network and 56% on its Content Network.
- SEM industry in North America is projected to grow from $14.6B in 2009 to $16.6B in 2010.
- Companies expect to spend 43% more in SEO in 2010.
- Companies expect to spend 52% more on paid search in 2010.
- 73% of the companies had less than $25,000 budgeted for social media marketing.
- ROI measurement is a major concern for social media marketing (63%), SEO (42%) and paid search (43%).
