SEO Consultant

I admit to have been slacking off lately, compared to when I started this blog almost 3 months ago. My posting frequency has dropped from daily blog posts in the first month to posting once a week currently. The reasons are simple:
a) I’m not a “problogger” and thus, don’t blog full-time for a living.
b) This is NOT a personal website so my range of topics are limited.
c) I prefer to write original stuff instead of re-writing the content of others.

After all, this blog was created as an experiment to see how it would impact my website traffic and increase my presence on the Singapore blogosphere. The numbers so far look encouraging and I’ll share the complete details come June 12th.

So what have I been doing?

The answer is related to another question I often receive - “why is SEO expensive?”

As an online marketing consultant, I constantly read and experiment to differentiate myself from the rest of the pact. I have literally burned tens of thousands of U.S. dollars and countless hours on Google Adwords to achieve the best conversion rates and on press release/article submissions to study the effectiveness of these marketing medium for example.

Some of my most recent experiments include:

a) Funny Junk
- where I upload things that I find interesting from the pile of junk mails that I receive everyday. The website currently enjoys good rankings after getting out of the dreaded Supplemental Index. The visitors came out of nowhere and are numbering an average 400+ uniques per day. I also sold a text link last week courtesy of it’s PR6.

b) Notebook Computer Reviews
- the idea is to create a database of notebook specs and mobile computing news. The rankings are also climbing quickly, e.g. “notebook reviews”.

c) PDA Phone Reviews
- similar to the blog above but with a focus on PDA Phones. All 3 blogs have a similar layout because apart from SEO, I’m experimenting with the Google ad placements to achieve high CTR (currently almost 10%).

d) Myspace Proxy
- I’ve not had to promote this site since introducing it via social networks, i.e. proof that social bookmark and social network marketing work.

e) Buy Office 2007
- an e-commerce experiment to study the impact of a landing page and how to optimize the Google Adwords ad campaign for maximum ROI.

Fortunately, some clients are able to look past the price factor and understand that not all SEO/online marketing consultants are created equal. My recommendations are often based on real, hands-on experience and not from an ebook, or worse, heresay. Still think my consultancy fees are expensive? Now you know why! :)
