I’ve been so busy this week learning about women’s shavers (lets leave that for another post) that I didn’t have time for anything else. Still this piece of news got my attention - iPhone.com sold for seven figures to Apple! Yup, you read that right. With an estimated 500,000 iPhones sold on its first weekend, it looks like Apple wasn’t the only one that got richer. Apple purchased from Michael Kovatch the iPhone.com domain name that he’s owned since 1995 - the price was never publicly disclosed but is believed to over $1 million. Kovatch, who started an ISP in 1993, registered iPhone.com twelve years ago because he predicted that the Internet would allow telephone calls one day. I guess it pays to have the foresight and definitely patience for a windfall like this. iPhone.com still sits in Kovatch’s account but Apple now controls the DNS. Kovatch still owns a string of other premium domain names like wine.net and golf.net.

wow..that is a big cha-cheng

Yup and I think he fully deserves it for having the foresight and for keeping the domain name for 12 years.

Hongkiat: I don’t think it’s going to be cheap. Although the iPhone costs $599 in the US, it comes with a 2 year contract and you end up paying $1,500 in the end. Since you’re in Singapore, look up the HTC Touch - only S$729.
Unfortunately, I’m in Malacca - KL next week and Perth for the whole of August. :)
