I received a link from a friend on Facebook to vote for her sister in IKEA’s “GO clean your room contest”. It’s a brilliant viral marketing idea (certainly one of the rare few I’ve seen in Malaysia) using social networks. Here are some screenshots: 1) An overview of what the contest is about. 2) The 5 finalists. 3) The finalist you want to vote for (note the clever Publish On Social Network button). 4) You have to give your name, IC, mobile and email - for future EDMs perhaps? 5) The winner got RM5,000 while the other finalists walked home with RM2,000 each. What didĀ IKEA get in return? A lot of publicity among Malaysia’s Internet audience (theoretically, the higher-educated and higher-income group) and thousands of names in their database for future EDMs.![]()










It definitely generated initial buzz whenever I heard it on the radio. But when it went off air, there wasn’t any other news. :(
