I’ve never used Alexa Rank information when evaluating a website to buy or sell. Why? Because Alexa Rank is highly inaccurate as it is calculated based on visits by Alexa toolbar users. I mean how many of us actually have the Alexa toolbar installed? Unfortunately, affiliate networks like Text Link Ads, ReviewMe and PayPerPost are using this number to measure the worth of a website, i.e. the price of a link on your page, a review or paid blog post. As a result, my 20,000+ visitor/day website was valued at only $40 by ReviewMe and $20-$50 by Text Link Ads. For those in the same predicament as I am, here are some tips to increase your Alexa Rank: 1. Install the Alexa toolbar (for IE only) and surf your own blog. Get your friends and frequent blog visitors to install the Alexa toolbar too. Firefox users will have to use the SearchStatus plugin. 2. Put an Alexa site widget on your blog. Every click counts as a vote towards increasing your Alexa rank. 3. Promote your blog to webmasters or techies. Make use of forum signatures, blog about webmaster/tech articles, create a webmaster tool on your blog, buy ads on webmaster/tech sites, etc. 4. Use redirects on blog comments to emulate Alexa toolbar clicks: 5. Try Alexa auto-surf programs - do a search on Google.

Forget installing the ALEXA TOOLBAR.
Install the Widget instead on the website and it tracks up proper.
Trust me
Oh ya…install the REDIRECT in yr URLS will give LOWER PR and Backlinks instead. Only use yr REDIRECT as yr HOME PAGE for yr Browser as it’s all it counts.
Playing and running MEME and Tags alike will also give better results and Alexa give better ranks if you get people to review yr site on AMAZON.

Good suggestions Azrin,
I have given up on Alexa, but use it as a rough guideline.
No point inflating any of your stats.
I’d just focus on monetizing.

This post proved 2 things, i.e. (1) you can game Alexa and which leads us to point (2) that Alexa is inaccurate.

Alexa rankings mean squat to the average joe. However it’s great to play the alexa game at urladex.com (like playing the stock market with alexadex rankings).
Other than that….spend time increasing PR and actual visitors.
