A friend (a fellow Internet marketer) of mine talked to me about LASIK early last year, about how it was a very competitive industry in Singapore because it was a highly popular procedure. He then went on to talk about how he’d researched the subject because he was considering getting both his eyes done too.

He was slightly scared then, because of the risks, so I’m not sure whether he’d done it or not.

Anyway, another friend just did LASIK 2 weeks ago to correct his myopia and that got my curiosity going again. I read up quite a bit about the subject and about LASIK in Singapore. I was a little shocked to read about botched jobs and how opthalmologists having to do “repair jobs” to save the eyes. Infact, I also read that MOH had to intervene with stricter guidelines because some clinics had “oversold” LASIK and liken it to be a miracle cure.

So what I did was to publish a LASIK education website at LASIK Surgery Singapore for those interested in getting their eyes done. It was written in my interpretation, i.e. a layman’s understanding, because if I understood it that means most non-medical people should too.

It’s basically information about the procedure (pre, during and post-surgery) and more importantly, the potential risks that comes with it - which I’m sure some clinics will purposely omit so they don’t scare you off.

I also published a cost comparison table to illustrate the difference in charges for the different clinics and procedures, based on whatever information I could find. And there’s a directory of LASIK clinics in Singapore because I’d strongly advised that those interested should consult more than one surgeon before making a decision.

Alas, all the above is based on public information and the website is lacking actual experiences from those who’ve actually had LASIK done on them. Hence, I’d truly appreciate if you could share your story so that I can publish them and help others make a better informed decision - the clinic you went to, the evaluation process prior to the surgery, what was performed on you, what happened during the follow-ups, how was the recovery, was it painful, etc.
