
The last two weeks have been pretty hectic. I was in Singapore, Malacca and now KL, doing 16 meetings in between. Besides clients, I also touched base with a couple of industry players that are important for my plans.

I was up in KL the last week to attend a forum organized by the 4As (Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia) entitled Power Of Web 2.0 - Branding, New Media, Politics. The panel speakers included blogger-turned-politican Jeff Ooi and Premesh Chandran (Malaysiakini).

I’d been keenly following up on Malaysia’s 12th general election, even attending 2 opposition ‘ceramahs’ early this week - one by DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and the other by PKR’s Anwar Ibrahim (also Malaysia’s ex-DPM). Yesterday, the nation voted in what I felt was the first REAL general election for Malaysia, and what a spectacular election it was!

Haven’t posted for a while but here are some interesting numbers on Malaysia’s advertising industry in 2007. According to Nielsen’s report, ad spend grew 15% to RM5.5 billion last year, with newspapers having the biggest share at 56.1%. This was followed by tv (32.9%), radio (4.4%), magazine (3.0%), outdoor (2.0%), POS (1.1%) and cinema (0.5%).
